JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The AV Specialist executes all aspects of System Design Validation, Installation Bill of Materials Development, Pre-Installation Test and Check-Out (PITCO), and final installation of Audiovisual (AV), Automated Information Systems (AIS), Active Infrastructure (AI), Passive Infrastructure (PI), and Structured Cabling to support multiple clients with various mission areas. The AV Specialist performs Systems Operational and Verification Testing (SOVT) in coordination with end users and is responsible for final commissioning of installed IT systems.

Work responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Equipment installation and mounting

• Network and control system cabling installation

• Copper and fiber termination, testing, cable routing and dressing

• Modification of existing control system protocols in accordance with customer requirements

• Configuration of AV, AI and AIS systems, including network switches, audio digital signal processing and video processing

Validates installation design drawing package details, red-lining as appropriate, for all details needed to complete the final installation (e.g. cable connectors, mounting details).

Maintains the accuracy of installed cabling and consistency of labeling applicable to those cables (i.e. the correct labels are affixed to all cables) during the installation process. May involve work outside of normal duty hours, and may involve travel.

Due to DoD Contract requirements, only US Citizens who currently have an active minimum Secret Security Clearance may to apply to this position. Selected candidates will be required to verify their US citizenship during the onboarding process and continued employment will be contingent upon a timely completion and submittal of personal security clearance forms and obtaining and maintaining a favorable background check at the required level.

Job Requirements:

  • Background in focus on AV PITCO for all equipment, and installation of the equipment in final locations

  • Three (3) years’ experience preparing, conducting and performing pre-installation testing of Audio Video systems

  • Three (3) years’ experience installing project with a budget in excess of $100,000 that includes system designed and installed to support classified data transmission and processing

  • Experience interpreting and correcting red-line as-built documents

  • Experience identifying and correcting installation errors like incorrect wiring or standards violation

  • Three (3) years’ experience in cable termination and testing using common testing devices

  • Three (3) years’ experience in installing displays, ceiling speakers, ceiling microphones

  • Total of at least three (3) years of practical experience as an installer of Shore C4ISR equipment for the Department of Defense and/or major telecommunications services or equipment providers.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Understand and comply with drawings completed in accordance with the SPAWAR Shore Installation Process Handbook.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and work in confined spaces

  • Highly skilled and experienced in the safe, effective, and efficient use of common installation power and hand tools including hand-held saws, drills (including hammer drills), hole punches, levels, crimpers, fusion splicers, and conduit benders.

  • Demonstrate a consistent record of good workmanship and compliance to standards.

  • Demonstrate advanced speed and accuracy when performing tasks such as attaching fiber optic connectors, RJ-45 connectors, audio connectors, and DB type connectors

  • Demonstrate above average speed and skill when performing tasks such as dressing cable installations so that the finished product presents a well-organized and professional appearance.

Experience vs Education matrix requirement:

2 to 4 years with BS/BA

4 to 6 years with AS

6 to 8 years with HS/GED

Specific desired experience, skills and certifications are as follows:

The best qualified candidates will demonstrate one or more of the following certifications:

  • Current AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) Certification

  • Current CompTIA Security + certification

  • Current AVIX CTS-I Certification

  • Skilled in the operation of all commonly used installation test equipment

  • Extron Control Professional Certified

  • Extron XTP Systems Technician

  • Harman/AMX design certification

  • Crestron design/installer certification

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit

  • Cisco certifications a plus

One of the following is desired:

(i) Associate’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or Information Technology --OR-- (ii) Completed four (4) years of U.S. military service with one of the following technical ratings - Electronics Technician with Advanced Training, Interior Communication (IC) with Advanced Training, Information System Technician (IT), Radioman (RM) (legacy rating), or Data System Technician (DS) (legacy rating) --OR-- (iii) Completed of a formal two year or more contractor apprenticeship in a related field that included at least six months of formal classroom training that addressed electrical circuit theory, electromagnetic radiation, and other disciplines related to C4ISR installations
