Control Engineer 5 – AVEVA System Platform

We have an immediate opening for a senior control engineer with master level experience in AVEVA System Platform. M.C. Dean supports a range of Mission Critical clients with top-tier up-time requirements. We are searching for dedicated and driven engineers who can work safely on live running systems while achieving project goals and schedules.

Location : Remote, serving customer sites in Virginia, Georgia and across North America

Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the technical execution of project work.

  • Serves as the System Platform SME within a team of engineers and technicians delivering a complete working system according to project requirements and schedule.

  • Applies expert knowledge of System Platform tools including the IDE, System Management Console (SMC), Log Viewer, Object Wizard, as well as Historian Server/Client.

  • Sees the “bigger picture” while working across the project team to achieve overall project objectives.

  • Designs and plans the configuration of communication servers such as Top Server, Kepware, OI Server etc.

  • Applies System Platform and M.C. Dean best-practices to develop efficient and complete programming.

  • Reviews customer requirements, dispositions requirements to owners and assess design constraints, and creates a software design which meets the requirements and needs of the customer.

  • Originates high level designs for system architecture and plans deployment with project and customer management teams to achieve seamless, timely, and safe migration for new and existing installations.

  • Responsible for creating first-of-a-kind templates which are flexible and adaptable across projects.

  • Effectively communicates the status of all work and reports roadblocks early and directly to project and divisional management.

  • Directs others in the development of test procedures, and verification testing of all design elements.

  • Reviews project submittals for accuracy and completeness and works with project engineers to resolve issues prior to submittal. Assess customer feedback and applies changes to the design and closes out comments.

  • Attends regular project meetings, participates in client review meetings.

  • Updates, tracks, and closes out all changes and issues in the project issues tracking software.

  • Works remotely to support project team members during on-site commissioning.

  • <10% travel to critical customer sites to perform troubleshooting or other skill sensitive support.

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of demonstrated experience designing AVEVA System Platform Galaxies for deployment in live production environments.

  • Extensive experience originating designs and leading a team of SCADA engineers to produce a working system.

  • Prior experience creating system architecture drawings, as well as reading, interpreting, and marking up schematic, process, and mechanical drawing packages.

  • Experience creating reusable, and adaptable modular programming.

  • Demonstrated experience applying customer sequence of operations documentation to software design.

  • Hands on experience creating, modifying, maintaining, and troubleshooting templates and instances within the System Platform environment.

  • Experience with server configuration and deployment.

  • Intermediate systems administration tasks in the Windows environment.

  • Skilled experience with OI Server, Kepware and/or Top Server.

  • Complete familiarity configuring and troubleshooting common industrial control protocols, e.g., Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, BACnet etc.

  • The ability to follow defined project plans, as well as the flexibility and resourcefulness to pivot when needed.

  • Experience configuring, deploying, and maintaining Microsoft SQL servers.

  • Practical knowledge of the deployment and maintenance of SQL databases and stored procedures.

  • Troubleshooting all of the above.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team according to the project schedule and work plan developed by project leadership.

  • Working knowledge of all standard office computing products. e.g., Office, Excel, Word, Bluebeam, Adobe)

  • The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with project, program, and divisional leadership as well as with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.

  • Strong commitment to quality and high attention to detail.

Desired Experience:

  • Familiarity with Datacenters and Mission Critical infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with EPMS and BMS, equipment, and components.

  • Prior experience originating system architecture, schematic, process, and mechanical drawings.

  • Scripting and custom report generation using C# or similar programming language.

  • Preferred experience interfacing with Allen Bradley PLC hardware.

  • Experience or knowledge of leading technology providers such as: Schneider Modicon, GE/Emerson, Niagara, Siemens, Rockwell, ABB, Iconics, Wonderware ArchestrA, Citect, OSIsoft PI, Ignition, iFix and more.

Required Certifications (one or more):

  • AVEVA Certified Developer

  • Application Server

  • Intouch for System Platform

  • Intouch OMI

  • Historian Server

Education/Licensure:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 10-12 years of experience.

  • Master’s degree in engineering with 7-9 years of experience.

Salary Range: $135,900 - $217,440
