PURPOSE: The Equipment Operator III, operates machines or vehicles equipped with blades/buckets to remove, distribute, level or grade earth, such as a backhoe or excavator.
Operating machines, equipment and attachments to perform the functions required to complete the project.
Operating equipment in successive passes overthe work area to achieve a specified result, such as grade terrain or remove, dump or spread earth and rock.
Aligning the machine, cutter head, or depth gauge marker with reference stakes and guidelines on the ground or guide on cutting/excavating attachment to set appropriate depth or positioning equipment following hand signals or follow directions from an assistant.
Fastening blades or attachments to machine using different style hitches.
Connecting hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkages, additional attachments or power takeoff shafts to the equipment.
Signaling operators to guide movement of the equipment.
Greasing, oiling, performing minor repairs (including tire), and operator level preventive maintenance on the equipment on a daily or weekly basis as required by the manufacturer or. M.C. Dean.
Orders consumables to keep equipment operating in timely fashions to prevent downtime of equipment.
Understands and complies with regulations such as utility locating/marking requirements and OSHA safety standards.
Attends and obeys all jobsite pre-dig safety meetings
Identifies risks and hazards associated with digging around live utilities and has knowledge of emergency shut-down procedures.
The incumbent must have knowledge of:
Machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance.
Materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings or other structures such as highways and roads.
Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques.
Four (4) years experience as an Equipment Operator is required.
High School Diploma or GED is required
State regulated driver qualification parameters must be met.
Commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred but not required.
If transportation of the equipment to the jobsite is required, the incumbent must comply with DOT commercial driver's license CDL regulations and any endorsements that are required.
Operators must successfully complete all safety training courses as provided by the company and including observation by the Equipment Safety Manager, Logistics Service Center Management or senior management.
OSHA 30 certificate.
Has vast and comprehendible knowledge of load charts.
Deemed as a Rigging "Qualified Person".
Deemed as a Trench Excavation "Competent Person"
NCCCO or equivalent certified Crane Operator.
